While FBS conferences held fall seasons of varying lengths, the FCS decided to wait until the spring semester to play football. One FCS team opened its season with an 87-3 win over a Division II opponent.

Former SEC quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr. had a pair of touchdown passes in Nicholls’ blowout win over Lincoln. Per the Associated Press, the 87-3 victory set records for points in a game and is the largest margin of victory for a Southland Conference team since 2009.

Nicholls is the last stop in a long college football journey for Scott.

The 2015 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year signed in LSU’s 2016 class. He redshirted at LSU and then transferred to East Mississippi Community College. He led East Mississippi to an 11-1 record and the 2017 NJCAA national championship.

Scott gave the SEC another try transferring to Mizzou in 2018. He didn’t see the field and transferred again, landing at Nicholls State in 2019. He sat out the 2019 season due to transfer rules.

Scott was 12-of-14 passing for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed for 40 yards and a TD.
