Greg Sankey and the SEC recently told Georgia and Tennessee to cancel upcoming home-and-home nonconference series against Oklahoma.

That, naturally, sparked some debate about whether the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners were planning on joining the SEC before the reported 2025 date.

But, on Saturday night, Sankey threw cold water on that rumor, saying that Alabama’s scheduled game against Texas would still go on next year:

The reason Georgia and Tennessee were told to cancel upcoming games against Oklahoma is that the second matchups in the series were scheduled for after the Sooners would be joining the SEC.

But, with the Alabama-Texas series wrapping up in 2023, it seems to indicate the Longhorns won’t be heading to the SEC until 2024 at the earliest.
