As the debate over the fourth team in the College Football Playoff drags on, the splitting hairs nature of the process has reached a boiling point. The crew on ESPN’s “Get Up,” especially Dan Orlovsky took the subjective nature of the process to task on Wednesday morning.

The ESPN analyst responded to SEC Network host Paul Finebaum said about Alabama has a better argument for the No. 4 slot because it played LSU. Ohio State is now No. 1 over LSU and Clemson, while Georgia is No. 4, Alabama is No. 5 and Utah is No. 6.

“Nobody else had to deal with LSU,” Finebaum said. “…That, even in defeat, trumps.”

Orlovsky responded, “This is the problem here Paul. You’re saying one team has a better loss than the other team, but doesn’t have a better win? I don’t understand how we’ve gotten to a point in football in general, but college football, well ‘This team had a better loss than the other team even though the other team has a better win.'”

Finebaum chimed in, “Dan, we’re talking about playing the No. 1 team in the country.”

For his part, Ryan Clark added, “You don’t understand how we got here, because nobody does. That’s the thing that they can do. They can go in this room and make these decisions based on what they feel. Obviously it’s not about who you beat, or how you beat them, or how many top teams you played, because LSU should be No. 1 by resume. They think that Ohio State is the more complete team. So they can set this thing up any kind of way that they want, and I do believe that the loss would be taken into play.”
