Ole Miss has ascended to No. 3 in the latest AP poll and is squarely in the College Football Playoff picture.

That’s the result of a second consecutive defeat of then-No. 2 Alabama, this time in Tuscaloosa.

The Rebels have taken on the role of college football’s sweethearts this past week, garnering national attention — and rightfully so — for their primetime victory over the Tide. However, they must be careful not to fall victim to a trap.

Ole Miss will host SEC rival Vanderbilt on Saturday with the chance to move to 4-0. Here are five Rebels to watch:

1. DB A.J. Moore: Ole Miss’ signature win at Alabama did not come without consequence, as starting defensive back Tony Conner tore his meniscus and will be sidelined for the next four games. Moore will take Conner’s place at the Rebels’ nickel. Through two games, Conner had 10 total tackles, including 1.5 for loss. Moore, in a reserve role, actually racked up 11 tackles, including one for loss, as well as a sack. He also has two forced fumbles and a pair of recoveries.

2. QB Chad Kelly: Now entrenched as Ole Miss’ starting quarterback, Kelly has put himself in the Heisman Trophy race with a marquee win in addition to video game-like statistics. Through three games, Kelly has thrown for 898 yards and nine touchdowns compared to one interception. He’ll now face a Vanderbilt defense that ranks 23rd in the nation in terms of pass defense, having given up only 5.3 yards per attempt and two passing touchdowns this season. Kelly will have his work cut out for him against these Commodores.

3. DL Robert Nkemdiche: The last time Vanderbilt played an SEC opponent, Georgia sacked Vanderbilt quarterback Johnny McCrary three of the four times he’s been brought down on the year. Nkemdiche has only a half-sack on the season but finds himself in a position where he could be facing inexperienced offensive linemen in Vandy’s Barrett Gouger, Blake Fromang, Delando Crooks and Justin Skule. Advantage: Nkemdiche.

4. LB C.J. Johnson: Ole Miss’ defensive leader came up huge with an interception last week against Alabama, his second pick in as many weeks, and added five tackles. Johnson’s focus should shift to McCrary, who has four touchdowns and five interceptions through three games this season. McCrary tossed three picks against the Bulldogs, including one to a linebacker. Johnson could extend his interception streak to three in this contest.

5. RB Jaylen Walton: One major concern after Ole Miss’ win against Alabama was that the running game produced just 92 yards and 2.9 yards per carry. Walton, a preseason Paul Hornung Award candidate, only accounted for 33 yards rushing and had two catches for two yards. In spite of that, Kelly led Ole Miss up and down the field via the aerial attack, but the Rebels need to find balance in their offense. Vandy ranks 36th in the nation in run defense, allowing a little more than 117 yards rushing per game. Ole Miss needs to jumpstart its running game before the schedule gets more difficult.
