Scott Woodward knows better than to get involved in the Nick Saban-Jimbo Fisher feud.

“I’m not going to get in between two hillbillies fightin’ from West Virginia. That’s a no-win situation,” the LSU athletic director quipped during his appearance on “The Paul Finebaum Show” Wednesday at the SEC spring meetings in Florida.

Woodward knows both coaches well. He was hired to LSU’s athletic department in 2000 as Director of External Affairs. He also served as Chancellor’s Representative to the Athletic Department. Woodward was at LSU until 2004 before leaving for Washington. Saban, a Fairmont, West Virginia native, was LSU’s head football coach from 2000-to-2004. Fisher, a native of Clarksburg, West Virginia, was the Tigers’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during that time.

Woodward was Texas A&M’s athletic director from 2016-to-2019. He hired Fisher as Texas A&M’s football coach in late 2017.
