Even the GameDay crew has its favorite college football matchups.

Since its inception in 1993 at No. 1 Florida State vs. No. 2 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., College GameDay has visited 64 college campuses for 176 games — two games were canceled in the early 2000s.

Each year, the phenomenon grew until the crew covered 18 games in 2015. The SEC was the first conference to have each team host College GameDay, and its teams dominate the leader board in all-time appearances, playing host and matchups.

GameDay Appearances

Alabama vs. LSU and Florida vs. Florida State lead the way as the most popular matchups touting eight appearances each.

Alabama and Florida are tied at 36 individual appearances each, but Alabama leads the SEC as a host with 13, while Florida comes in behind the Crimson Tide, playing host 12 times, followed by LSU with 10—not counting any games played at neutral locations.

Outside of the SEC, Ohio State is tied with Alabama, Michigan is tied with Florida, and Florida State is tied with LSU — again, not counting any games played at neutral locations.

In the past five years, Alabama has been the only team to make at least three appearances every season, and LSU has made the most appearances in a single season with five in the 2011 season.
