Heading into Week 8 of the college football season, we’re starting to get a better idea of the teams competing for College Football Playoff spots.

Alabama is the clear No. 1 team, with most people having Ohio State, Clemson and Notre Dame joining them in the current top four.

However, on “Get Up” on ESPN on Wednesday morning, SEC Network host Paul Finebaum said he has LSU in his top four. Currently, Finebaum has a top four that looks like this:

  1. Alabama
  2. Ohio State
  3. Notre Dame
  4. LSU

LSU over Clemson? Finebaum said he hasn’t been impressed with Clemson, while LSU has posted one of the best resumes in the country (via 247Sports):

“I like LSU,” he said. “They have three top-10 wins. They have looked really good. Joe Burrow has been serviceable, not great, but he’s come through when it matters — winning at Auburn, winning against Georgia. They let the Florida game get away. They have to be careful, though. Alabama is in two weeks. Mississippi State on Saturday could be a tough game for them.”

It’ll be tough for two teams from the SEC West to get into the Playoff, but we would have probably seen it last year if Auburn had beaten Georgia in the SEC title game, so it’s not impossible.

We’ll have to see how the rest of the season plays out.
