On Wednesday, more than 300 players accepted offers to play SEC football. Some of those players are junior college transfers, but the vast majority are high schoolers poised to graduate and become college freshmen in the summer.

While SEC fans are getting familiar with all the newcomers, here are the ones most likely to make an immediate impact and be voted to the 2017 All-Freshman Team.

Offense

OL: Alex Leatherwood (5-star, Alabama)
OL: Trey Smith (5-star, Tennessee)
OL: Isaiah Wilson (5-star, Georgia)
OL: Austin Deculus (4-star, LSU)
C: Eli Johnson (RS 3-star, Ole Miss)
TE: Major Tennison (4-star, Alabama)
WR: Jerry Jeudy (5-star, Alabama)
WR: Jhamon Ausbon (4-star, Texas A&M)
QB: Kellen Mond (4-star, Texas A&M)
RB: Najee Harris (5-star, Alabama)
RB: Tyson Chandler (4-star, Tennessee)
AP: Lynn Bowden (4-star, Kentucky)

Freshmen offensive linemen can be tricky to predict. A lot of linemen need a year of practice, training and physical development before they’re ready to see the field, but 5-star signees tend to be ahead of the curve.

Deculus was a 4-star recruit, but he made it to Baton Rouge early and is expected to earn a starting spot this fall. Not many designated centers were signed this year, but Johnson was one of the top 2016 center recruits and redshirted.

In general, most position groups are unlikely to feature two freshmen from the same team. There’s enough difference between tight end and wide receiver, however, that two Alabama pass-catchers could make the team.

Tennison, an early enrollee, gives the Crimson Tide a 6-6 target, which should be helpful in the red zone. Jeudy is looking to be the next South Florida wideout who shines in Tuscaloosa, a la Amari Cooper and Calvin Ridley.

With Texas A&M losing multiple top wideouts after 2016, there’s certainly an opportunity for Ausbon to step in and make a name for himself.

Mond is behind Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) and Jake Fromm (Georgia) in the rankings, but he’s much more likely to actually play as a freshman. The Aggies have an opening at quarterback, and Mond is already with the team in College Station. Kevin Sumlin hasn’t shied from playing freshmen in the past, and there’s no reason for him to do so now.

As the highest-rated running back Nick Saban has signed at Alabama, it’s safe to assume that Harris will get his share of touches this fall. The Crimson Tide backfield was already set with Damien Harris and Bo Scarbrough, but Harris is too talented to sit on the bench.

The Vols desperately needed a running back with Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara both gone, and they signed an elite ball-carrier in Chandler.

Four-star ATH Lynn Bowden can do a little bit of everything, and there’s no reason Kentucky should confine him to lining up in one spot this fall. He’s a perfect fit for the all-purpose spot.

Defense

DL: LaBryan Ray (5-star, Alabama)
DL: Tyler Shelvin (4-star, LSU)
DL: Zachary Carter (4-star, Florida)
DL: Markaviest Bryant (4-star, Auburn)
LB: Dylan Moses (5-star, Alabama)
LB: Anthony Hines (4-star, Texas A&M)
LB: Jacob Phillips (4-star, LSU)
DB: JaCoby Stevens (5-star, LSU)
DB: Richard LeCounte III (5-star, Georgia)
DB: Jamyest Williams (4-star, South Carolina)
DB: C.J. Henderson (4-star, Florida)

On the defensive line, it’s easiest for freshmen to get noticed as pass-rushers. Defensive ends Ray, Carter and Bryant are likely to get their share of sacks this fall. Alabama is rebuilding its front seven.

Florida has seen two freshmen flash at defensive end the past two seasons under defensive line coach Chris Rumph (Cece Jefferson and Jabari Zuniga). Auburn is in search of its next dynamic pass-rusher with Carl Lawson departed. At 6-2 and 376 pounds, Shelvin is ready to plug up the middle and power his way over interior linemen at LSU.

Alabama signs talented linebackers year after year, but Moses looks like the kind of linebacker Saban and Jeremy Pruitt will find a way to get involved. At Texas A&M, there will definitely be opportunity for Hines to step in and lead the way at a position where the Aggies were thin a year ago. LSU is also in need at the position, and Phillips is the Tigers highest-rated linebacker signee.

Taking part in spring practice will definitely help 5-star safeties Stevens and LeCounte adjust to life in the SEC.

As for cornerbacks, Will Muschamp and Travaris Robinson have a history of getting excellent play from freshman cornerbacks like Vernon Hargreaves III and Teez Tabor at Florida, and Williams looks to be their next star rookie.

Speaking of Florida, the Gators are so thin at cornerback and nickel back that Henderson should get lots of playing time in a secondary known for producing freshman standouts.
