Here are some quick thoughts on Florida’s 24-14 win over South Carolina:

What it means: Florida moves to 9-1 and closes out the regular-season conference slate with a 7-1 SEC record. South Carolina will finish below .500, falling to 3-7 on the year with just one SEC win.

What I liked: On the road, the difference between stumbling out of the gate and starting strong can decide the game. Florida dominated USC in yardage (200-53) and time of possession (19:58 to 10:02) in the first half. The UF offense did an excellent job of spreading the ball around, with TE Jake McGee (5 catches, 45 yards) and RB Jordan Cronkrite (2 catches, 49 yards, TD) getting involved in the passing game. The Florida defense dominated for three quarters. South Carolina’s defense collected two turnovers, but the offense couldn’t capitalize. USC QB Perry Orth found his groove in the fourth quarter, including a 6-for-7 stretch with a 38-yard touchdown pass to WR Pharoh Cooper.

What I didn’t like: The Gamecocks couldn’t make a play to get the crowd into the game early. For Florida, after CB Jalen Tabor’s interception, the Gators had virtually guaranteed points deep in USC territory, but came away with nothing due to the  Treon Harris interception. And late, the Gators looked like they thought the game was already over when it got to the fourth quarter, allowing a 17-0 advantage to be cut to 17-14.

Who’s the man: Cronkrite ripped an interception away from South Carolina CB Chris Lammons and scored a touchdown on the pass, a sign that it just wasn’t Gamecocks’ day. The freshman RB also got UF’s first touchdown on a 3-yard run.

Key play: South Carolina had all the momentum late, trailing just 17-14 and one down away from getting the ball back. But UF RB Kelvin Taylor broke off a 53-yard run on third-and-8 to clinch the game for the Gators. Taylor punched it in on the next play to make it 24-14.

What’s next: Both teams get a tune-up game before facing their ACC rivals in Week 13. Florida will try to make it a 10-win season with a victory over Florida Atlantic. South Carolina should be able to add one to the win column against the Citadel.
