Tragic news hit a Division III college football program this week as an assistant football coach was killed in a car crash.

Donald Klein III, 37, an assistant coach at The College of New Jersey was pronounced dead at the scene after his Jeep veered off of I-195 in New Jersey, and crashed into a tree at 5:10 a.m. on Tuesday, The Trentonian reported.

“I don’t even know where to begin,” TCNJ head football Coach Casey Goff said. “Donny loved this sport and he loved this team. I honestly don’t know what to say right now, we’re all still trying to wrap our head around it.”

It was a single car crash, and he was the only person in his vehicle, police told the paper.

Klein was the offensive line coach, recruiting coordinator and video coordinator for the Lions, who have a 2-6 record this year. The team has two games left in the season.

“Donny was an awesome human being, just a truly good, good person who has done more for people in his life than most will ever know,” Goff said. “Those who were close to him know that we lost someone really special today.”
