Florida State’s 2017 national championship hopes just took a major blow.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, FSU QB Deondre Francois suffered a season-ending patella tendon injury in the 24-7 loss to Alabama. He’s scheduled to have surgery as early as Tuesday.

The FSU signal caller was injured in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game against Alabama. He was sacked from behind and had to be helped off the field. Alabama DB Ronnie Harrison is the player who hit Francois, and he sent out his well wishes via Twitter following the game.

Here’s a replay of the injury:

Francois finished the game 19-of-33 for 210 yards, one TD and two INTs.

Win or lose against the Crimson Tide, many around the country were picking FSU to make the College Football Playoff, but those chances are in serious doubt after the injury to Francois.

Freshman James Blackman is expected to start for FSU Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe.
