SEC Media Days are over, and that means we’re back into the void of not much going on. Fortunately, there’s only a little over a month until actual games start, with Florida and Miami starting us off on Aug. 24.

Until then, though, all we have are preseason predictions, summer camp news and roster speculation (there are still a few quarterback battles going on around the conference, including at Auburn, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt).

Anyway, settle in for a lot more of talkin’ season before we actually get to the games. The games are coming, though, slowly but surely.

Here are your questions for this week’s SDS Mailbag:

@SChinni12:

Which SEC team would be the most entertaining on a “Hard Knocks” type of show?

This is a very interesting question, and I think there are a number of quality candidates. LSU with Ed Orgeron is always going to be entertaining. It would be cool to get an inside look at Kelly Bryant and the Missouri Tigers this year. It could also be fun to see Alabama’s quest to get back on top.

However, I’m going to go a different direction with my top team. I’ll say Florida. Dan Mullen would be great in that style of show, and the Gators have so many ups and downs it would make fascinating television.

RB Lamical Perine would be a star on the show, and QB Feleipe Franks is interesting, too. Then there’s the whole DBU thing they have going with LSU, so you know Florida’s defensive backs would have a lot to say.

The more I talk about this, the more I think it’s something that really needs to happen. Let’s get SEC commissioner Greg Sankey on the phone!

@DKing2796:

If you had to legitimately pick an SEC player to run through a brick wall (per the Joe Burrow/Ed Orgeron discussion), who would it be?

There are plenty of guys who are fast enough and strong enough (and crazy enough) to do it, but I’ll give you two finalists — Kentucky LB Kash Daniel and Auburn DL Derrick Brown. Those guys are some of the best defenders in the country and they both are absolute beasts.

At 6-5 and 320 pounds, Brown is a physical freak and the best defensive lineman in the SEC (and perhaps the country). Daniel isn’t that big, but he would actually believe he could demolish a brick wall, and that’s half the battle for a task like this.

Those two are going to be a lot of fun to watch as seniors this fall, but hopefully they aren’t asked to run through any literal brick walls by their coaches.

@Dobbe8:

What’s the worst-case scenario for Mizzou this year?

A lot of people would say going 5-7 or something like that in Kelly Bryant’s one year with the program would be the worst-case scenario but I disagree. In all honesty, the worst-case scenario for my Tigers would be much worse.

The situation that would cause Mizzou fans the most pain would be if the Tigers make it to the end of September and then find out the 1-year NCAA postseason ban has been upheld. They rally behind that, continuing to pile up wins. Then, they enter the Nov. 9 game at Georgia with a perfect 8-0 upset and then pull off the major upset.

The Tigers then go on to win the SEC East, but they’re banned from the postseason, remember? Georgia gets their spot in the SEC Championship Game, beats Alabama, makes the College Football Playoff and goes on to win the national title.

That would be the Tigers’ worst-case scenario, and it would be way more painful for me than the Kentucky and South Carolina losses in 2018. Is it a long shot? Absolutely, but it would be way worse than the Fifth Down, the Flea Kicker, Kansas being picked for the Orange Bowl following the 2007 season, and every other injustice that has been sent the Tigers’ way.

Hopefully, the NCAA chooses to #MakeItRight, though, and the Tigers get to play in whatever bowl game they earn this postseason.

@K_Duron200:

Which team do y’all think is going to have the strongest running game this year?

Georgia’s D’Andre Swift is the best running back in the SEC entering the 2019 season, hands down. However, your question is more about team rushing, so I’m going to go a different direction. I think the Bulldogs are going to have to use more of a balanced attack to move the ball on offense, so I’d be much more confident picking Swift to be the back with the most receiving yards this fall.

To have the strongest running game as a whole, though, you need to have a quarterback who can run, too. Therefore, I’m going to narrow the list of possible candidates to Kentucky, Mizzou, LSU (as mentioned above, Coach O wants Burrow to run more), Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Auburn.

Give me Auburn for the top rushing attack this year. Whoever wins the starting job between Joey Gatewood and Bo Nix, they’ll be expected to run quite a bit. Gus Malzahn is calling the plays again, and that means the Tigers are going to run, run, run. I also like Mizzou and Mississippi State, but if Malzahn gets back to doing what has made Auburn great over the years, it’ll be a big 2019 campaign for the Tigers’ ground game.
