Earlier tonight, the Southeastern Conference handed out its weekly football honors to the top performers from this past week of SEC football.
Here are the following Week 6 award winners.
Offensive Player of the Week
Bo Wallace, QB, Ole Miss
The senior quarterback played the game of his life this past weekend when his team needed it the most. Wallace led the Rebels in a comeback 23-17 win over top-ranked Alabama. He threw for 251 yards, three touchdowns and most importantly, no interceptions. He completed his final three passes for 57 yards and two scores. Saturday’s win over Alabama is arguably the biggest win in program history.
Defensive Player of the Week
Richie Brown, LB, Mississippi State
Mississippi State throttled Texas A&M 48-31 on Saturday, but it was the play of sophomore linebacker Richie Brown that remains one of the standout performances from the Bulldogs’ statement win. Brown picked off an astounding three passes from Kenny Hill, including two interceptions in four four passes from Texas A&M’s sophomore quarterback.
Co-Freshman of the Week
Jalen Tabor, DB, Florida
In a key conference game against rival Tennessee, it was freshman cornerback Jalen Tabor who made the big plays on defense for the Florida Gators. In addition to three tackles, Tabor also recorded a strip-sack and also recovered the fumble deep in Tennessee territory. This fumble recovery sparked the Gators’ first touchdown of the game early into the fourth quarter.
Co-Freshman of the Week
Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia
Once Todd Gurley left the game in a blowout win against Vanderbilt, it was the Nick Chubb show in Sanford Stadium. Georgia’s freshman running back ran for 78 yards and one touchdown on just eight carries.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Daniel Carlson, K, Auburn
Auburn put up 41 points Saturday night against LSU, giving kicker Daniel Carlson plenty of opportunities to make an impact with his leg. He was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts, converting from 46 and 42 yards. He was also 5-for-5 on PATs. Carlson also was able to punt some, averaging 40.7 yards on three punts.
Offensive Lineman of the Week
Ben Beckwith, OL, Mississippi State
Beckwith, who started at center for the suspended Darren Day, excelled in his new role. It was his first career start at center and he spearheaded an offensive line that helped Mississippi State produce 559 total yards of offense.
Defensive Lineman of the Week
Bud Dupree, DE, Kentucky
For the Wildcats, it’s doubtful that anybody made a bigger play Saturday night against South Carolina than defensive end Alvin “Bud” Dupree. In addition to six tackles, Dupree intercepted a deflected pass at the line of scrimmage and promptly returned it for the game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
Drew Laing will be providing analysis and insight on Florida, Georgia, Missouri and South Carolina.
