The referee bashing has reached a season high it seems. After last week’s string of calls and missed calls that made Will Muschamp and most of Twitter erupt in outrage, much of the disappointment and frustration continued on Saturday – mostly during a few marquee games. Are refs getting worse or are we just able to dissect the missed calls like never before? Maybe both?

For those of you that weren’t up all night pinging the @SECOfficiating Twitter account, let’s bring you up to speed with the three worst calls that garnered the most social media outrage on Saturday:

Tennessee calls and missed calls

Tennessee fans took to Twitter to complain about a series of calls and missed calls on Saturday. One notable one was the lack of a flag on a blatant facemask which you can see here:

How bad was the (missed) call? 8 out of 10.

Let’s not leave out South Carolina fans who have had a rough couple weeks. The South Carolina faithful weren’t happy with holding not being called here:

Lack of holding penalties on LSU

During Auburn-LSU, Auburn fans were enraged at the lack of holding calls on the LSU offensive line. LSU’s OL was doing its best to protect Joe Burrow from Auburn’s tough defensive line, and sometimes they did a little more than they were supposed to. Do I think this swung the game? Not really. And I think this is fairly common.

How bad was the (missed) call(s)? 7 out of 10.

PI on Michigan

During the late Notre Dame vs. Michigan game, a Michigan interception was overturned when the referee threw the flag and called defensive pass interference. The overturned turnover then led to a Notre Dame touchdown and brought the score to 17-7. It had potential to dramatically alter the game, and hence, social media users were quite enraged at the call.

How bad was the call? 9 out of 10.

Yep, so there were some bad calls. But let’s remember that they’re human, football is just a game and we should all be reasonable. Ah, nevermind, we know it’s pointless. Argue away…
