Home-field advantage backfired during a soggy afternoon in Athens, but Texas A&M and Florida each recorded impressive wins over nationally-ranked teams in front of sellout crowds to highlight Week 5 in the SEC.

Week 5’s average attendance was 81,596, setting a new weekend high this season in the SEC after topping Week 3 average figures. Three sellouts exceeding 100,000 helped the SEC lead the nation in average attendance and the atmosphere in The Swamp for the Gators’ win over Ole Miss was one of Saturday’s most electric.

Many of Georgia’s fans headed for the exits early in the fourth quarter of their rain-soaked blowout loss to Alabama. Nick Saban’s team was able to take the crowd of 92,746 out of the game early with a three-touchdown lead in the second quarter.

In Knoxville, the Vols lost at Neyland for the second time this season despite a raucous crowd against Arkansas. The Razorbacks snapped a three-game losing skid and sent Tennessee reeling with its second straight SEC loss.
