Alshon Jeffery had an impressive career during his time at South Carolina. Now, he will receive one of the highest honors from the Gamecocks.

On Monday, the program announced plans to retire Jeffery’s jersey. That ceremony will take place on Sept. 23 during halftime of the game against Mississippi State.

“Alshon Jeffery is one of the best players in Gamecock football history and is deserving of having his jersey retired,” said South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner via press release. “Alshon set the standard at his position in a program that has developed a number of great wide receivers in its history.”

Jeffery joined the program in 2009 and was a Freshman All-American with a team-high 46 catches to go for 763 yards and 6 touchdowns. As a sophomore, Jeffery posted 88 catches to lead the SEC along with 1,517 yards and 9 touchdowns to earn All-American honors while being named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award.

Jeffery ranks 3rd on the program’s all-time list for receptions (183), second in receiving yards (3,042) and tied for first in receiving touchdowns (23). He is just the 6th Gamecock all-time to have his jersey retired by the program.

Jeffery would go on to be selected in the 2nd round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He finished his NFL career with 475 career catches, over 6,700 receiving yards, 46 touchdowns and a Super Bowl ring.
