News of South Carolina QB Jake Bentley’s injury made its way around the country, including the Palmetto State, earlier this week.

At a recent press conference, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked for his reaction to the news that Bentley is out with a mid-foot sprain. If Bentley’s injury requires surgery, he will likely be out for the remainder of the 2019 season.

“I don’t know what happened,” Swinney said when asked about Bentley. “I did hear about it yesterday and I hate it for him. Hope it’s not as serious as they say. The kid has worked really hard. He’s a great young man and he is a product of this state. I know he is committed to his team and I know he has put the work in to be the best he can be.”

“You hate to see anyone lose their opportunity especially their senior year,” Swinney added. “It’s tough. It’s part of the game. We all know that but my heart goes out to him and hope he can recover and not be as serious as they say.”

Last season, Bentley had a huge game against Clemson. Bentley was 32-of-50 passing for 510 yards, five touchdowns and just one interception. Despite the big night for the Gamecocks QB, Clemson came out in top 56-35 in the high-scoring rivalry clash.
