Former South Carolina DC Lorenzo Ward was a key part of Steve Spurrier’s Gamecock staffs, serving in Columbia from 2009 to 2015. He was the team’s defensive coordinator from 2012 to 2015.

In 2016, he was with Fresno State and has spent the past two seasons with Louisville, serving as the Cardinals’ interim coach when Bobby Petrino was fired.

On Tuesday, Chattanooga announced that Ward had been hired as the Mocs’ new defensive coordinator. Head coach Rusty Wright released a statement praising Ward:

“I have known Coach Ward for a long time and he is an outstanding addition to our program,” stated Wright.  “He was on the staff when I played here and has coached at the highest levels throughout his career.  He wants to be here and we are very fortunate to have him.”

Chattanooga came to South Carolina last year, losing 49-9.
