Rick Sandidge’s South Carolina playing career has come to an end. Sandidge shared a statement announcing his medical retirement shortly after Shane Beamer shared the news with reporters.

Beamer told reporters that Sandidge would still be a part of the team even though he would not be suiting up. In his tweeted statement, Sandidge says he will be a recruiter for the Gamecocks.

Sandidge would have entered a redshirt senior season. He had ankle surgery in August 2021 after suffering an injury in the first scrimmage of fall camp. A former 4-star recruit, Sandidge played in 34 games from 2018-to-2020. He recorded 17 tackles including 4 TFL and 1.5 sacks.
