Leading 56-7 as the clock rolled toward 0:00, Clemson used its timeouts, much to the dismay of South Carolina.

The Gamecocks felt disrespected by the showboating the Tigers did late in the game, according to The State.

S D.J. Smith was the most vocal about what he felt was a classless act by South Carolina’s rivals:

“I feel like they kind of disrespected us at the end,” safety D.J. Smith said. “Holding the ball and doing all that showboating. I feel like it wasn’t really classy, but it is a rivalry game. It’s going to stick with all of us and we’re going to remember.”

TE Hayden Hurst agreed, saying the Gamecocks will have their game against Clemson circled on next year’s schedule:

“That last couple minutes was pretty disrespectful,” tight end Hayden Hurst said. “We’ve got a year to think about that and let it sink in.”

Being angry about the Tigers’ actions is understandable after a brutal loss, but it’s up to the Gamecocks to come back next season and not give Clemson any reason to celebrate.
