Will Muschamp asked how Hurricane Florence could affect South Carolina’s upcoming game
With Hurricane Florence barrelling toward the southern coast of the United States, with both North Carolina and South Carolina potentially directly in the impact of the storm, games set for this weekend are already being affected.
If you missed the news, North Carolina State is reportedly refusing to travel to West Virginia for the game.
During his Tuesday media availability, the first question posed to Will Muschamp was the status of South Carolina’s upcoming home game against Marshall. The way the Gamecock coach currently sees it, the game will go on as scheduled until he hears otherwise.
“We are ready to go, Saturday night at 7:32 kick. We are in great hands in this state… and at this university. I’m preparing for a football game,” Muschamp said. “Obviously, my thoughts and prayers are with the people on our coast and the North Carolina coast and whoever this storm may affect but as far as I’m concerned, that’s where we are headed.”
It’s business as usual in Columbia, for the time being anyway.
The South Carolina was asked a follow up regarding the support the program is offering to those that could potentially be impacted. According to Muschamp, steps are being taken to ensure the safety of anyone connected to the university.
“All of our players’ families on the coast, we are trying to make sure they have a place here in Columbia,” he said. “The school opportunity fund can handle that. No different than I believe it was last year when a hurricane hit South Florida, we offered all of our players’ families opportunities — within the entire athletic department — for their families to evacuate and come to Columbia. We are in the process of doing that right now.”
