Will Muschamp on the hot seat? Fans call for USC's head coach to be fired after Mizzou loss
South Carolina lost another game Saturday. This time, it was to SEC East member Missouri.
Will Muschamp’s Gamecocks were pounded by the Tigers 34-14, and now, Muschamp is hearing it. USC has now lost to North Carolina, Alabama and Missouri through four weeks, and Gamecocks fans aren’t happy.
South Carolina managed just 16 rushing yards the entire game on 24 carries. Ryan Hilinski didn’t fare much better, completing just 13-of-30 passes.
Looking ahead: next week’s game against Kentucky could be the biggest game of Muschamp’s USC career.
Following the loss to Missouri, USC fans reacted on social media:
FIRE. MUSCHAMP. SOMEONE. PLEASE. BUY. US. OUT.

I’ve stood behind Muschamp the past couple years knowing what he had to take over. This season hasn’t been nothing but an embarrassment and it was suppose to be his best team at S.C. #firemuschamp

I mean we’re getting blown out by a garbage team. I mean Mizzou should finish ahead of only us and Vandy in the east. #FireMuschamp

I understand that whole #FireMuschamp trend for Gamecock fans, but might I suggest this problem goes a lot higher… #FireRayTanner

Never thought I'd say it but… Fire muschamp, mclendon, and whoever else. This is a joke

We’re TRASH! Hilinski didn’t last long. Hope you’re injury isn’t too bad. I would transfer if I were him because the Muschump coaching zen is you get worse the more he coaches. I’m just soo glad I’m not writing checks to Carolina anymore. Good luck losers.
Don’t worry, you still have us on your schedule.
I count that as another “L”. At least y’all will have 1 SEC win.
Well… Hilinski was injured going into the game and, quite honestly, shouldn’t have played. More sage decision making from Champ. That has nothing to do with Ryan so keep his name out ya mouth.
Pruitt and Muschamp are defensive coordinators, not head coaching material.
Apparently ^
President/General Caslen needs to fire Ray Tanner tonight. 3-9 is what the final record will be. I’m done for the season I have completely lost love of football this year between this $hit show and the Carolina Panther dumpster fire I just don’t have it to sit and watch anymore this season.
Told you not to play Helsinki vs. Alabama. Understand now?
I’m no longer counting App St as a sure win. But I was apparently dumb to doubt SCAR’s bowl chances a couple weeks ago, so what do I know?
App State beat NC today. Just saying. Vandy , Florida, and Tennessee will def beat SC. Kentucky will annihilate SC. Tossing my season tickets now or suing Tanner for a refund.
Luke I think you underestimate our lack of football prowess. I think our game will be won 2-0 by one of us.
Thank God I was Army and I graduated from USC. At least Army has a tough team. As long as Muschamp and Tanner are at USC, I’m not. Go Black Knights/Go Army. To hell with Muschamp and Tanner. forever to thee. #FireMuschamp
I follow Army too and they come to Atlanta in October to play Tennessee killer GA State, I will be there hoping for them to win another game.
It’s bitter sweet.
Just as I predicted, Muschump is not for real and we are sliding back into our spot.
I love to say I told you so, but these two insanely sage calls don’t feel so good. Shout out to BLPB.
You couldn’t predict rain in a monsoon. Get a life arschloch. Wenn Sie einen Gedanken hätten, wäre es ein Wunder.
Gott und Himmel! He’s educated!
Thanking our lucky stars you snatched him away before Georgia could hire him.
Why are we fans surprised? Muschamp was a loser at Florida. Of course he sunk the program. What we should really be angry about is the ridiculous contract Tanner awarded this bum. FIRE Muschamp immediately. SC will lose EVERY GAME REMAINING ON THE SCHEDULE. 1-10 season.
Tanner gave him a 15 million dollar buy out. We’re stuck with him. Fire Tanner.
Your giving TN two much credit. You will be 2-9!
You irrational Carolina fans thought you were better off with Jake Bentley out. You should have known better. Now you want to fire everybody because a better team whipped you.
No, On paper we recruit better than Mizzou every year. We’ve spent about a trillion dollars over the last couple of years on facility up grades. Muschump is a farce and our AD gave him a 15 million dollar buy out. That’s why we thought we should at least be competitive. So yes…some people should be gone.
Looked to me like Mizzou had the most and best athletes. I would not put so much stock into recruiting rankings
This is hilarious…
Shhhh, pipe down. It wasnt that long ago this was us…
Y’all tried to warn us.
Jim McElwain is waiting by his phone.
Where O where are you poor Lil BLPB? What happened to all that trash talk about Mizzou? And that 7-5 prediction and a guaranteed W in Columbia “GA may GA”, but the coots gonna suck! Enjoy your 3, 4, or 5 win season. Enjoy Muschamp.
Be afraid, be very afraid. UNC Tweetsie is coming to town soon.
He’s busy trying to trademark that “GA gonna GA” genius quip he came up with.
There is no sense in paying that buyout until we have an AD in place to make a quality hire. Tanner can’t.
It is time to bring Brad Edwards home.
@sicem @goga, I was one of the first to congratulate Mizz fans, i don’t hide for 8 months after my team takes an L. I noticed you guys waited until after the ND game to come out of your troll holes, it’s cool though I’ll admit I was wrong about Carolina, but I’m spot on about GA, I’ll save you both a seat at the bar come playoff time, because we all know GA won’t be there either, the season is long and ga will ga.
Great reply. Curb stomped by Mizzou. UNC Tweetsie beat the Real Carolina this week. You better watch out!
For a “GA” fan you spend an awful lot of time worrying about SC and who they play each week. You are essentially ESEC, lol
We’ll see exactly how much I have to worry about SC in a couple of weeks. IF you do show up down here, don’t leave early, you might learn something!
You’re spot on about UGA? For that statement to be true, UGA would have needed to lose against ND. Look, you have absolutely no place to talk even the slightest trash. “GA will GA”? You mean have a strong team and be nationally competitive? Sure UGA may not win it all thia year, but at least they’re in the thick of it and not face planting (hard) in September. Now go to your imaginary bar, where you seem to have so many seats saved, and wait until next offseason to start talking with unfounded bravado.
Urban Meyer may be available. But on this side of the Savannah River, we all vote for SC keeping Muschamp!!
I’m at the point of taking Meyer if Clem$on can get away with roiding up and cheating then its time for USC to get into the mud. I’m sick and tired of boy scouts like Ray Tanner that doesn’t take no prisoners mentality, a baseball mentality is to nice too much apple pie mentality when it should be iron boot mentality.
Champ isn’t on the hot seat due to his $22 million dollar buyout (who TF thought this was a good idea based on the last 3 years?!?!?) but he should be. To every UF fan in here who told us this was coming, and I argued against saying he learned his lesson… you were right and I was wrong. I apologize to each and every one of you.
The only way this mess gets fixed is that Ray Tanner gets shown the door first if Kingston doesn’t make Omaha this year maybe relieve him of baseball duties then make himself the baseball coach and then resign as AD. Its time to make football a priority now that every other olympic sports have the best facilities and doing exceeding well.
Bwahahahaaa! I feel your pain. I stuck up for that dude for three years. Finally threw my shoe at the tv and cursed myself out for being such a dupe.
Don’t hire Zook or McElwain. Just take our word for it.
Tweetsie gonna whoop ’em in Colatown!
I don’t miss his indignant press conferences: We’re not changing anything. Next question. Look we’ll get it fixed but we don’t have to fix the things you think we have to fix. It’s on me. I won’t make excuses. I don’t do that. It’s hard to win with all these injuries but it is what it is. That’s on me. We just have to play harder. Play calling is NOT the problem. Do you even know what a midline is?
But at least he hasn’t constantly humiliated your program with public temper tantrums.
That’s a remarkably good impression of Muschamp
Honestly, after watching the Alabama game, I expected a better contest from the Gamecocks. Like all USC-Mizzou games, there were a couple of weird plays but overall “Curb-stomped” is a pretty good summary. However, for all the statistical dominance from Mizzou, it took a 100-yard interception return to seal the deal.
A couple of points to think about.
1. Hilinski was hurt and never should have played. What’s worse is I think Hilinski got the needle at halftime – he came out in the 3rd quarter firing missile’s and making throws he didn’t (and couldn’t) make early in the game, but as the half wore on and the shot wore off, he became more and more limited. Something to consider …
2. Mizzou had the better team across the board … except for D-Line vs. O-Line. You’ve got a good group out there, and they can keep you in games.
3. I can see three, probably four more wins for you in the next few games. Kentucky, Vandy, Tennessee and App. State are all winnable contests.
4. Not sure what you can do about Muschamp … the buyout on him after January 1 is still $18.6M. That pretty much means one more year.
What do you meen ” got the needle at half time”?
