Joel Klatt, a FOX Sports analyst and former Colorado quarterback, has a unique perspective on Colorado’s move to the Big 12.

He called it a no-brainer move for the Buffaloes as they chose stability, and the timing was one thing that surprised him.

“I’m actually a bit surprised that it didn’t happen sooner, based on what has gone on over the last 8 months, I believe that Colorado has shown a great amount of patience, in dealing with the Pac-12 and what could eventually come from a television deal,” Klatt said. “Ultimately, what they saw was more stability, more exposure, a revenue picture that looked much more stable. This was a bit of a no-brainer.”

It’s not as much about wins and losses, and Deion Sanders recruiting in Texas, but more of a marketplace discussion, Klatt said.

“This move is beyond Coach Prime, this move is for the future of the athletic department and institution,” Klatt said. “They needed to make this move because of the instability of the Pac-12, clearly, and what they viewed as a better partnership and way forward into the future in the Big 12.”

Athletics Director Rick George has made legacy moves in the last 8 months that no other college sports leader can match in hiring Sanders, and moving conferences, Klatt said.
