Alabama opened as a 17-point favorite against Texas A&M, and the spread has only gotten larger since. Some books have the Crimson Tide as high as 19-point favorites, while the Vegas Insider consensus is 18 points.

Considering those numbers, it doesn’t seem like many people are giving the No. 6 Aggies a chance to pull off the upset at No. 1 Alabama. Fox Sports reporter Bruce Feldman, however, thinks that Kevin Sumlin’s squad will come out of the game on top of the SEC West:

Texas AM 23, Alabama 21: I was comfortable picking Bama to win, but by a lot less than the spread. The Tide are coming off a terrific road performance at a beleaguered Tennessee squad. The Aggies are more physical and more athletic than the Vols, and my hunch is they’ll be ready for this test.

They also have the big-play wideouts to come up with the kind of big plays you need downfield to knock off the Tide, and QB Trevor Knight’s been pretty sharp taking shots (14th best in the country on throws of 20 yards-plus, according to Pro Football Focus). As impressive as Jalen Hurts has been so far, I could see John Chavis and the Aggies D giving him some problems. The freshman QB hasn’t been great statistically when he gets pressured (26 percent completions), but the Aggies will have to tackle a lot better than they have this season.

Alabama fans don’t need to get too worried about Feldman’s pick, however, as he notes he went 4-6 on his Week 7 predictions and is 33-43 against the spread on the season.
