Texas A&M is off to a hot start against Texas State Thursday night.

Entering the opener, all eyes were on quarterback Kellen Mond. Most figure Mond to be the SEC’s third or fourth best quarterback behind Tua Tagovailoa and Jake Fromm.

Well, Mond came out dealing in the first half. He finished 13-of-18 for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Those stats aren’t ridiculous, but his throws certainly were. Three of his four incompletions were drops, and he’s sharper than he’s ever been. In addition to solid passing, Mond ran for a five-yard touchdown.

Mond’s first touchdown pass of the season came on a beautiful 21-yard pass to Quartney Davis.

This next pass was his best, although the ball popped out of Davis’ hands when he hit the ground. Mond couldn’t have placed the ball any better.

Mond later hit receiver Jhamon Ausbon on a rollout on a beautiful pass to the two-yard-line.

The Aggies lead Texas State 28-0 at halftime.
