Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin has made it abundantly clear that both Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray will take snaps this season for the Aggies and the position battle for the starting spot was decided during fall camp.

He reiterated his point during Tuesday’s weekly radio show after being pelted with questions following Saturday’s win over 15th-ranked Arizona State and Monday’s practice.

“I’ve heard the word yank, I’ve heard the word this, that and the other … we don’t have a quarterback controversy,” Sumlin said. “Those guys understand where we are. We played them and we’re better off playing both of those guys in that situation.”

Murray, the nation’s top-ranked dual threat in the 2015 class, made his debut on Texas A&M’s eighth offensive possession with 2:19 left in the second quarter. Raw from a passing standpoint with an interception, Murray showed off his escapability and managed 69 yards rushing during the game.

Allen showed control of the offense, especially in the fourth quarter when he completed 7-of-8 passes for 113 yards and accounted for two touchdowns — one through the air and the other on the ground.

“Everybody asks me, ‘well, what’s the plan and when is he going in,'” Sumlin said. “We’ve got an idea where we are and it’s really nobody’s business, particular the opponent, when we’re going to play those guys.

“They call it a controversy whenever you have two good ones or two bad ones. We don’t have two bad ones. I’ll put it that way.”

Other key highlights from the second episode of The Kevin Sumlin Show include …

On showdown vs. Arizona State in opener:

“You want to be the best, you got to play the best. Like I said in the beginning, whether we won or lost that game last Saturday was not going to define who we were. If we lost that game, we still had a bunch of games to go ahead. All you got to do is point to Ohio State last year who lost that second game to Virginia Tech.”

On not playing a team from Texas this season:

“I better not comment on that.”

On SEC’s 10 ranked teams:

“That’s easy for y’all to be happy about. Man, seven of them from our division, every one of them. You guys can cheer for that, I’m not cheering for all that. I’m cheering for us. That says a lot about our league when we step outside. Kind of the history of this league has been to play, or be invited, to those types of games.”
