Rylan Kennedy is staying close to home to play his college ball.

Kennedy announced via his Twitter that he has committed to Texas A&M for the 2023 season. A native of Mansfield, Kennedy visited College Station over the weekend before making his decision official.

Kennedy, a 6-foot-4 edge rusher, was 1 of the top recruits in the state of Texas following his breakout season at Lake Ridge in 2021. Prior to making his commitment official, Kennedy held offers from Texas, USC, Auburn, Washington, San Diego State, Cal, and Missouri Southern State.

The Aggies are looking to provide better results in 2023 after a forgetful year. Following an 8-4 record in 2021, Texas A&M regressed, finishing below .500 for the 1st time since 2008. The Aggies also went on a 6-game losing streak following a 23-21 win over then-No. 10 Arkansas in Week 4 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, their longest since 1972.

Kennedy is the third commitment for A&M since the start of December, joining 5-star running back Rueben Owens and 4-star wide receiver Debron Gatling. Here’s a look at Kennedy’s tape from his senior season at Lake Ridge High School:
