There’s a new “Voice of the Aggies” in College Station as Texas A&M announced on Friday that Andrew Monaco would be taking over for legendary Aggie play-by-play man Dave South. Monaco previously spent the previous 11 years working for the San Antonio Spurs broadcast team.

Monaco will call Aggie football and men’s basketball starting in the fall, in addition to hosting the coaching shows for each program.

Texas A&M’s new play-by-play man offered up these thoughts via a prepared statement:

“I am thrilled and humbled to be to be chosen to succeed Dave South and I can only hope to honor his legacy by telling the stories and describing the accomplishments of outstanding student-athletes. Joining the Aggie and Learfield families is a tremendous honor and responsibility, and, as the father of an Aggie, I have a unique appreciation for the traditions, values, and culture of Texas A&M. I cannot wait for the first kickoff on August 30th.”

Texas A&M AD Scott Woodward also added these comments in the same statement:

“We’re excited to welcome Andrew as the “Voice of the Aggies. Since last fall, we have conducted a comprehensive national search for a broadcaster who could bring the game to life for our listeners and viewers and who also would have a deep appreciation and feel for what Texas A&M is about. Andrew is a world-class professional with unmatched enthusiasm who understands the importance of this role to the Texas A&M legion.”
