Video: Butch Jones celebrates two-year anniversary at Tennessee
On Sunday, the Tennessee Volunteers will learn where they will play their first bowl game in four years. The day also marks the two year anniversary of head coach Butch Jones’ hiring.
Jones was named the 24th coach in program history on December 7, 2012. Since his arrival, the Vols have gone 11-13, including a 6-6 (2-5 SEC) record in 2014.
During this past season, Tennessee started 11 freshmen from Jones’ top-5 2014 recruiting class. 32 of the 71 players that appeared in the Vols’ season opener were freshmen. The previous record for freshman debuts in Week 1 was 12 in 2010.
Jones snapped Tennessee’s 19-game losing streak against ranked opponents with a win against South Carolina in 2013. The second-year coach holds a 2-0 record against Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier, the winningest active coach in the SEC and second only to Bear Bryant in all-time SEC wins.
