Tennessee wide receiver Jimmy Calloway was among the players Tennessee missed on Thursday in the win over Bowling Green.

Before the game, it was reported that he was out for “unspecified reasons,” and after the game coach Josh Heupel said the Vols expect Calloway back “real soon.” The Vols return to action on Sept. 11 against Pittsburgh.

Calloway’s absence was expected to mean an increased opportunity for freshman Walker Merrill at slot receiver, but Merrill did not record a catch in the 38-6 win.

Last season, Calloway appeared in 8 games as a true freshman at both wide receiver and on special teams. He made 2 catches for 20 yards against Vanderbilt, and added a 6-yard catch against Auburn.
