Nate Spillman became the latest wide receiver in the class of 2023 to make his commitment to play in college.
Spillman, a 3-star recruit out of Nashville, Tennessee (Lipscomb Academy), announced that he would commit to Tennessee. He was recruited by Alex Golesh. Spillman is listed at 6-foot-1 and half and 194 pounds, and is ranked the No. 115 wide receiver in this class, by the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 38 player in the state of Tennessee. He also held offers from Marshall and Arkansas State.
Spillman is Tennessee’s fourth commitment for the 2023 class and the first projected receiver in the Vols’ class, as he joined offensive lineman Ayden Bussell of Mt. Juliet (Tenn.) High School as the Vols second in-state commitment.

“Coach Heupel and (offensive coordinator Alex) Golesh made it really clear that they want me, and I’m a big part of what they’re trying to build at Tennessee,” Spillman told GoVols247. “It just made sense to me that that’s the place I want to be. … It was one of the most simple decisions I could make. How could you not want to be part of something like what Tennessee is building? It was a no-brainer.”
Spillman’s trip to Knoxville on Saturday was his fourth visit to Tennessee’s campus since June, and he said he has been in frequent contact with the Vols over the past month.
Spillman, who is originally from Sierra Leone, said “just the relationship Coach Heupel and Coach Golesh have built with me and my family” was one of the main reasons he ultimately decided on Tennessee.
