Never-ending misery: Tennessee fans, media react to latest heartbreaking Volunteer loss
Tennessee had victory in the palm of its hands. Instead, the Volunteers found a new way to blow it Saturday night inside Neyland Stadium against BYU.
If you missed it, Tennessee had a three-point lead in the game with only seconds remaining when BYU connected on a 64-yard pass — which was the longest play from scrimmage by over 35 yards on the day — to set up a game-tying field goal as time expired.
The pass play was a result of a blown secondary assignment.
With all the momentum in overtime, BYU scored two touchdowns on two possessions to win the game.
The reactions from media and fans of Vol Nation were about as bad as you would expect:
This loss is worse than Georgia State. Tennessee football is cursed beyond belief. That game was impossible to lose given the final minute and Tennessee lost it. Not much else to say.

Fans showed up tonight. Effort was better tonight. Too many inexcusable mistakes. Playcalling on offense and defense made it clear what our weaknesses are. I have zero answers but to go back to work. I’m sick for our program.

Tennessee is 0-2 for the first time in 31 years.
Vol Nation remains undefeated though. They packed Neyland Stadium and cheered their asses off.
They deserve so much better.

This, not last week, was the worst loss in Tennessee history. An embarrassing performance against an outmatched opponent 7 days after an embarrassing performance against an outmatched opponent.

Tennessee drops to 0-2 with a 29-26 loss to BYU that they totally, thoroughly deserve after allowing a 64-yard pass completion with less than :30 to set up a tying field goal. Atrocious and totally preventable.

And Tennessee lost. They had a 99.6% chance to win with 30 seconds left in the 4th quarter. They lost in 2OT one week after losing to Georgia State. It's been a rough go.
