Here’s how the Tennessee Volunteers graded after their 50-16 win over Kentucky.

OFFENSE: A

The Vols recorded 511 total yards. Joshua Dobbs threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-27 passing, while rushing for 48 yards and a touchdown on 10 attempts. Tennessee’s offense looks improved with a capable dual-threat quarterback under center.

Jalen Hurd rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. It was the third time Hurd recorded over 100 rushing yards this season.

DEFENSE: A

The “Orange Swarm” defense looked refreshed coming off its second bye week. The Vols allowed 16 points, including a total of three points in the second half. Derek Barnett added seven tackles, four for loss and two sacks to his season totals. Barnett entered with the school freshman sack record, which he extended to nine sacks.

SPECIAL TEAMS: B-

Aaron Medley went 3-of-4 on field goal attempts, with his longest made field goal measuring 39 yards. He also went 5-of-6 on extra point attempts. Matt Darr punted four times and totaled 174 total yards. He averaged 43.5 yards and landed two punts inside the 20-yard line.

Evan Berry returned three kickoffs for 91 yards, averaging 30.3 yards.

COACHING: A

Saturday’s game was Tennessee’s most well coached game of the season. The Vols play calling was efficient now that they have the correct personnel at quarterback. The Vols also managed to limit themselves to three penalties and held a 34:02-25:58 advantage in time of possession.

OVERALL: A

Tennessee looked like a balanced team on Saturday. The Vols offense rolled to a season-best 50 points. The defense held Kentucky to the lowest amount of points allowed since a Week 7 win over FCS Chattanooga. Tennessee has found its stride and looks to secure bowl eligibility.
