Tennessee transfer RB Eric Gray announces commitment to Big 12 program
The transfer portal continues to send top talent from Tennessee to Oklahoma.
Eric Gray is the latest Volunteer to transfer to the Sooners via the portal. Gray announced his commitment to OU on Wednesday night via his Twitter account. Lincoln Riley’s staff has previously added former Vols Wanya Morris and Key Lawrence.
Gray played in all 23 Tennessee games over the last two seasons, making five starts. This past season, Gray led the team in rushing (157 carries, 772 yards, 4 touchdowns) and had the second-most receptions (30) on the team.
Gray was rated 4-stars and the No. 3 all-purpose back in the class of 2019 on the Composite. He had 23 other scholarship offers, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.
Oklahoma will be LOADED. My gosh. They’re going to be balling come fall.
Really, then why do they need Tennessee players?
Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado need to dump Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas in the near future. Numerous FCS (Arkansas State) (Missouri State) and Division 2 Universities would line up to get into that league once the ball and chain of Texas and Oklahoma were cut from around their necks. Television deals wouldn’t pay as much early on but they wouldn’t need to and the revenues would grow as the popularity of the balanced league grew. Texas needs to restart the stay-in-texas-and leave-your-neighbors-out-of-your-mess league. So they could be 3 plus SMU, Houston, TCU, TTech, Baylor, etc., all-cheaters league.
Good can’t wait to see them destroy Sark and Texas. BOOMER
Should make things very interesting for the rest of the BIG 12. Going to make things a lot harder for Texas who was hoping that Gray would sign with them. A shame for Tenn they just keep losing talent.
Will he even be allowed to play? UT held him out for a reason.
Good question. The problem is there is so much reported, yet so little actually known as to what went on. you just have to go with what is reported and adjust as the actual facts come out. The media would rather be first, and if not first then have something, than to be correct.
Lincoln Riley needs to send the team jet to Knoxville and clean house. Sheeesh what a hoarder.
For real. He is getting his recruiting class sitting in his easy chair.
Covid year doesn’t count for NCAA athletes and plus you get one free transfer anyway.
The transfer without penalty hasn’t passed yet. They keep saying it will, but it keeps getting pushed back. The question was did he commit a rules violation and accept money during his recruitment.
Was Oklahoma low on scholarship players or will there be a bunch of guys getting red tickets in their lockers?
good question, but i think you know the answer. riley is seeing a good bit of turnover in teams (bama, clem, osu) that have finised in front of them the last several years. he’s going all-in and not worried about hurting the feelings of the #82 – #85 ranked players on scholarship.
this doesn’t feel like the last transfer he’ll go after
I guess that’s one way to get SEC talent over in the Big XII. Maybe they think they can compete now.
Look at you being a try hard. hahaha You were saying the same things about Texas A&M a few years ago when they fled the Big 12 because they were a constant also ran. Middle of the pack Texas Tech even owned them. More media support does not make a conference better. lol
But National Championships does.
Thanks Bama
Welcome to Tennessee!
The farm league of college football. Play well enough and you might get called up to the big leagues someday.
Unbelievable situation. If you’d told me this is what UT football would look like 10 years ago…I would’ve probably just invested in some Bama gear.
Then you were never one of us.
It’s called sarcasm…unbelievable to me that you still can’t understand that.
But I’m sure Crossville Elementary doesn’t teach that to their 6th graders.
I can’t even joke like that
Disappointing to see them jump ship, but wish them well.
BrokebackVol None of these guys were that vital to the team this past season. Morris was the worst 5 star who had a bust year. Key is a newbie with only a few tackles this year and Greg got good numbers for a small back because he got the mass majority of running plays. I appreciate these guys for coming here and giving it there all but we lost the majority of battles at the line due to Morris. I hope they succeed at OU though!
Wow, how many is that now? If OU wins a Natty, they need to send half of the trophy to Knoxville.
Wanya Morris was a bust at TN. Horrid year on the line. Single handedly beat in one on one’s. Not a big loss there. Cade Mays was sent over to help him at RT, still same result. Maybe the Sooners can simplify it for him. Grey is good, a bit small and they’ll beef him up a little. Not a back to run against a big physical D. Key is a newbie and had only a couple of tackles this past season as a freshman. These aren’t seasoned players that we won’t miss. Production vs opportunity. Grey got good numbers because he got more than 50% of running plays. We have quite a few other backs that have yet to see the field.
I dont keep up with Okie of course, but they must have had a lot of room, a lot of scholarship openings. Or are some scholarships not going to be renewed. But at any rate, if things werent working out in the SEC, you can be a star in the Big12.
This just in…
OK has just changed their name to Rocky Top West
Maybe OU is using Chick-fil-A bags instead of McDonalds bags to hand out ‘goodies’.
The preceding comment was a joke… so please calm down. I do feel bad for people in athletic department that had nothing to do with football team.
Did he take his Mcdonalds bag of cash with him?
Hey man… at least you have a sense of humor about it. UK lost one of it’s best receivers, Jeff Badet, to OU at the end of the 2016 season. It turns out Badet’s last year at UK was the best of his college career.
