Greg McElroy explains why he believes Texas is a ‘legitimate national championship contender’

We all saw Texas walk into Tuscaloosa Saturday night and take care of business against Alabama, 34-24. Pretty convincingly, too.
For obvious reasons, that’s a strange reality to take in. The Tide don’t lose much and when they do, they don’t lose at home. It gave Nick Saban his first double-digit home loss at Alabama ever and the Longhorns join 6 other programs in being ablet to beat the Saban-led Tide at home, period.
Some are focusing on the Alabama angle from this game, but former Alabama QB Greg McElroy gave the Longhorns some love Monday afternoon on his show, Always College Football.
McElroy insists that the Longhorns are not just a playoff contender, they’re a “legitimate national championship contender.” Why? It all starts with quarterback Quinn Ewers.
He explains why Ewers is so important to this Texas squad below:

Ewers totaled 349 passing yards with 3 touchdowns Saturday with an average air yardage of 9.2 per completion.
The Longhorns are back in action soon as they welcome Wyoming to Austin. The Cowboys already knocked off one Texas-based Big 12 school this season (Texas Tech) and look to play underdog once again Saturday at 8 p.m. on the Longhorn Network.
