Tashard Choice has decided to remain with Texas after being courted by the Dallas Cowboys, according to a report.
Choice will remain as UT’s running backs coach, per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Choice played for Dallas from 2008-11 and was on its radar after naming Brian Schottenheimer as head coach earlier this offseason.
This is a huge development for the Longhorns, as Choice has become one of the top running backs coaches in the country. He’s been with Texas since 2022, so he had a hand in developing Bijan Robinson and Jonathon Brooks. He also recruited players like CJ Baxter, Jaydon Blue and Tre Wisner.
Even has Texas battled injuries at the running back position in 2024, it still had a productive running game. The Longhorns finished 9th in the SEC in rushing average in 2024 despite losing Baxter before the season began.
With Baxter set to return in 2025, the Longhorns hope to take an even bigger step forward next year in their running game. Baxter rushed for 659 yards and 5 touchdowns as a freshman in 2023. They’ll also have Arch Manning to improve their QB run game as well, as he’s more mobile than Quinn Ewers was.
Texas signed the No. 1 recruiting class in the country for 2025, per 247Sports Composite rankings. The class includes a pair of blue-chip prospects at running back who Choice helped land: James Simon and Rickey Stewart.
