Kyle Whittingham told reporters Monday afternoon that they “have to consider” the possibility of Cam Rising coming back for one more year of college football.
Rising has played in 3 games this season for the Utes despite a hand injury he suffered against Baylor. This means that if he does not play again this year he can qualify for a medical redshirt.
There will be a consideration for an 8th year, “we’ll have to consider it, not sure if Cam has considered it” Whitt on Rising potentially redshirting again.

Rising’s career is about as unlucky as they come. He enrolled at Texas in early 2018 but never played a snap for the Longhorns, instead transferring to Utah. And when he’s on the field, he’s seen plenty of success. In 2022 Rising threw for over 3,000 yards with 26 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, but suffered a knee injury that kept him out the entire 2023 season. Rising also missed most of the 2020 season due to injury.
Rising suffered yet another injury against Baylor, as mentioned above. His momentum carried him into a row of water coolers, which injured his hand. He then suffered a leg injury against Arizona State that Whittingham says will keep him out “indefinitely.”
Kyle Whittingham: Cam Rising is out “indefinitely” and Isaac Wilson will be the starter “until further notice.”
