The Vanderbilt Commodores (1-4) will travel to Athens, Ga., for their annual SEC East matchup against No. 13 Georgia Saturday. The Bulldogs are coming off a 35-32 thriller over Tennessee that saw a career day from their star player. Todd Gurley rushed for 208 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries.

The Commodores are coming off another poor showing, falling 17-7 to Kentucky in Lexington this past weekend. Vanderbilt allowed 384 total yards, including a combined 183 rushing among several players. Opponents have totaled 807 yards and nine touchdowns on 218 attempts against the Commodores for the season.

The stage is set for Gurley to have another Heisman worthy performance facing a struggling Vanderbilt team. The junior has dominated opponents at a consistent rate this season and Saturday shouldn’t be an exception with an extremely favorable matchup.

Freshman Nigel Bowden leads the Commodores with 36 tackles and is averaging 7.2 per game. Vanderbilt’s next four leading tacklers are all defensive backs that have needed to make stops after opposing teams see big gains.

The only thing stopping Gurley from matching his career totals is the amount of reps he receives. With a talented running back behind him, Gurley won’t need to carry a heavy load through all four quarters. Freshman Nick Chubb will be able to see more carries if Vanderbilt falls behind early.

The Commodores are in for a tough matchup against one of the nation’s best players. Gurley is on pace to have a career season and should continue his impressive output against a struggling Vanderbilt defense.
