Virginia Tech opens scoring vs. Clemson with blocked FG return for touchdown

Virginia Tech is hosting Clemson at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, with both teams looking to bounce back from losses: the Hokies in overtime to Syracuse and the Tigers against Louisville.
Saturday’s game hasn’t been the most entertaining one, at least through a quarter. The Hokies went 3-and-out on their opening possession before Cade Klubnik threw an interception to end a promising Tigers drive. After a second Hokies punt and a Tigers turnover on downs, Hokies running back Kyron Drones fumbled the ball in Tigers territory, giving the visitors great field position.
Clemson would have to settle for a 46-yard Nolan Hauser field goal attempt, but it was blocked and eventually returned by Quentin Reddish for a Hokies touchdown. Here’s video of the play:

The Hokies haven’t had much success against the Tigers in the all-time series between the two teams. Although they haven’t met on the gridiron since 2020, the Tigers have taken the last six meetings and have a 23-12-1 edge.
Dabo Swinney’s team is looking to keep their fading ACC Championshp Game hopes alive; winning that could be their only path to the College Football Playoff if they’re able to get there without dropping any of their remaining four regular season games — while getting some help in the process.
The Hokies, though, are looking to play spoiler, and their hopes of doing so are off to a good start.
