Jimmy Lake on Monday was suspended a game without pay by the University of Washington after ESPN cameras spotted him on Nov. 6 making contact with a Huskies player. Lake will not be on the sidelines for the team’s next game against Arizona State on Saturday.
After the announcement of his suspension, Lake released a statement apologizing for hitting the face mask of linebacker Ruperake Fuavai and then shoving him in the back.
“I want to apologize to every member of our team, and in particular to Ruperake Fuavai, for my actions during our game on Saturday,” Lake said. “I also want to apologize to [University] President [Ana Mari] Cauce and [athletic director] Jen Cohen for putting the University in this position. I fully accept the decision that was made. Our team has a right to expect better than what I displayed on Saturday, and I’m committed to doing just that – being better so our program will reflect all that’s good about being a Washington Husky.”
The Huskies lost to No. 5 Oregon 26-16. They are currently 4-5, with a 3-3 mark in the Pac-12.
