Townsend actually committed to Alabama June 3rd, according to his father.
“He had a verbal commitment on June 3, but he wanted to have the opportunity to visit other colleges to see what they had to offer as well,” Townsend’s father told 247Sports.
The 6-0, 180-pound prospect is rated the No. 193 overall player and the 20 athlete in the country, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Townsend became Alabama’s 5th commitment for the class of 2017.
