Alabama redshirt freshman linebacker Keith Holcombe will have double duty this spring.

Holcombe will play baseball in addition to practicing with the football team. He was a 37th round draft pick in 2014, but he hasn’t played baseball since. Holcombe will play outfield for the Crimson Tide.

Alabama’s head baseball coach Mitch Gaspard spoke to AL.com about Holcombe’s situation.

“There’s going to be some back and forth when football begins,” Gaspard told AL.com. “With us playing night games and the way the spring schedule is tailored, we’ve been able to marry up the football schedule and the baseball schedule so. He might miss a little time, but not much. Really, right now, if he’s contributing and playing a major role, he’s going to be here. So we think it’s going to be a real good situation for us and football through that time. And I think he will be a major contributor for us.”

Holcombe was rated a four-star prospect in the class of 2014, and he made eight tackles this past season. His 6-4, 225-pound frame screams athlete.

Gaspard said details still needed to be worked out as to when the Crimson Tide have a baseball game and a scheduled football practice at the same time.
