TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Although the University of Alabama football team appeared to lose two players to significant injuries during its 59-0 victory against Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon, neither was as bad as initially feared.

Senior right tackle Austin Shepherd has a sprained ankle and knee, and sophomore defensive lineman Jonathan Allen had nothing worse than a bad cramp.

“Everybody’s ok,” Coach Nick Saban said. “Shep probably could have played in the second half.”

Allen’s scare occurred early in the third quarter and he left the field at Bryant-Deny Stadium on a cart.

Shepherd went down in the second quarter during Alabama’s third touchdown drive, specifically on the throw into the end zone that was knocked out of senior tight end Brian Vogler’s hands.

He was also slow to getup earlier in the possession on junior running back T.J. Yeldon’s 25-yard gain. That injury appeared to be to his ankle. The second one trainers were quick to remove the brace on his right knee.

Sophomore Grant Hill, who had been out two weeks with an illness, replaced him at right tackle, and then played left tackle when the second unit came in during the third quarter.

“He played well,” senior guard Arie Kouandjio said.

As expected, redshirt freshman Bradley Bozeman started for junior Ryan Kelly (sprained knee) at center for the second straight week. However, junior linebacker Dillon Lee did not start again for Denzel Devall (ankle) as the Crimson Tide came out in a different defensive formation.

Junior wide receiver Amari Cooper (knee) and Vogler (ankle), who sustained injuries at Arkansas last week, started in their usual spots.

Alabama (6-1, 3-1 SEC) will visit Tennessee next week and then have its second bye of the season.
