Tuscaloosa’s municipal judge is expected to make a ruling in Alabama offensive lineman Alphonse Taylor’s DUI case prior to the Tide’s season opener against USC on Sept. 3, according to TuscaloosaNews.com.

The senior lineman was charged with a DUI and leaving the scene of an accident on July 17. Taylor tested negative for alcohol, but performed poorly during a field sobriety test, according to court records.

The offensive guard was absent from Tuesday’s pre-trial at Tuscaloosa Municipal Court, however, he was represented by his attorney Jason Neff. Neff told Tuscaloosa News that he and the city attorneys agreed to a set of facts involved in the case that the Judge Ricky McKinney will consider and a ruling is expected to take place in about a week.

Taylor contacted Tuscaloosa authorities at 8:50 a.m. on the day of the arrest to report that he had struck a vehicle in a parking lot by The Woodlands apartment complex.

“I immediately noticed that Taylor’s speech was very slow and he appeared lethargic,” the responding officer wrote in the arrest report. “Taylor advised that he had not been drinking, he did not take medication and had no medical problems.”

The officer noted that Taylor was sitting reclined in his 2002 Chevorlet Tahoe when he arrived. The lineman claimed that he bumped his head on the steering wheel. The 911 dispatcher reported that Taylor was “very difficult to understand” during his accident report. The officer found the nearby vehicle involved in the accident and charged the senior with DUI and leaving the scene of the accident.

Taylor reportedly provided two breath samples at 9:19 a.m., which both showed he had a 0.0 blood alcohol content. The 6-foot-5, 345-pound lineman was “indefinitely suspended” in July following his arrest, although he has practiced in fall camp.

Taylor started in all 15 games for Alabama at right guard during its national championship season in 2015.
