Considering the amount of pressure fifth-year senior Blake Sims has been under this season with Florida State transfer Jacob Coker nipping at his heels to play, Saturday’s heroic 445-yard outburst in a win over Florida was even more gratifying for a player who rarely received shine heading into his final campaign.

Popular opinion was that Coker, who Jimbo Fisher deemed would be the best quarterback Nick Saban’s ever had, would showcase his abilities and win the starting job as commander of Lane Kiffin’s elite offense.

Instead, Sims has been the guy who has proven otherwise with four solid starts to open the season for the SEC favorites.

It all came together for the Gainesville, Ga. native against the Gators when he completed 8 of 10 passes in the first quarter including 87 and 79-yard scoring strikes to Kenyan Drake and Amari Cooper. Any questions concerning arm strength were answered after Sims launched those missiles into the stratosphere and over the top of Florida’s underwhelming secondary.
