With all of the talk about both squad’s explosive offenses coming into this matchup, it’s actually been Arkansas’ defense that’s made the biggest statement for the Razorbacks thus far.

At the time of this posting, Texas A&M has managed to rack up just 87 passing yards. Not many people would have predicted that low of a number for the Aggies’ passing attack, especially against a questionable Arkansas secondary.

However, the defensive backs for the Hogs have played very well today and a big key to the defensive success has also been the pressure on Aggies quarterback Kenny Hill. The standout sophomore is just 9-of-17 so far in the first half and has missed several of his receivers when pressured out of the pocket.

Defensive tackle Darius Philon and defensive end Trey Flowers have made their presence felt early and often this afternoon. The two combined on A&M’s second drive for a tackle for loss and a quarterback  hurry to force a three-and-out on Texas A&M, the first of two such drives for the Aggies in the first half.

It’s unlikely Arkansas will be able to keep A&M from adding on to their 14 points, but there’s no question Arkansas’ defense has kept the Razorbacks competitive throughout the entire first half. They’ve made the plays and step up to the huge challenge of defending this explosive Aggies offense.

Hogs lead Aggies 21-14 with just over a minute left in the first half.
