For the second time in three days, Penn State coach James Franklin has lost an assistant coach to an SEC school.

First, Tennessee nabbed defensive coordinator Bob Shoop from the Nittany Lions to fill the same position on the Vols’ coaching staff. Now, PSU’s offensive line coach, Herb Hand, is joining Auburn’s staff, according to a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity with USA Today.

Like Shoop, Hand was a trusted assistant of James Franklin, working under him at both Vanderbilt and Penn State. However, Hand has working experience with Gus Malzahn, having worked with him from 2007-08 at Tulsa.

Hand replaces J.B. Grimes, who left Auburn to become the offensive line coach at Cincinnati.
