Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams isn’t too far removed from his playing days, which featured a trip to the 2004 Sugar Bowl as a member of the Tigers.

As Auburn scraped out a 16-13 victory over Virginia Tech to finish an undefeated 13-0, the Tigers held on to the No. 2 spot in the AP rankings.

Now that the Tigers are preparing for another trip to New Orleans, Williams recalled his Sugar Bowl experience for AuburnTigers.com:

“It was a great experience,” Williams said. “It’s a great bowl. We were undefeated. Playing a great Virginia Tech team. We were excited to be there. We were in New Orleans. They do a really great job at that bowl site.”

He said he’s trying his best to have his unit prepared for the exciting atmosphere of the SuperDome:

“Embrace it,” he said. “Continue to be part of the process of getting better. Once we get there, it’s their time. It’s something they earned, so embrace it and have fun. But have a plan of coming out and playing our best football on the 2nd.”

No. 14 Auburn will host No. 7 Oklahoma in this year’s Sugar Bowl. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Central time and can be seen on ESPN.
