Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers fell to Oklahoma in heartbreak fashion Saturday afternoon. The Sooners used a late Pick-Six to win, 27-21.

Auburn failed to do the little things against Oklahoma, perhaps best shown by the fact the Tigers led most statistical categories by a wide margin. Auburn outrushed and out-threw the Sooners while finishing with less penalties and more time of possession. The Tigers were also better on 3rd and 4th down.

Where was Oklahoma better? The Pick-Six was the only turnover committed by either team Saturday.

On Monday, Freeze told reporters that while they’d like to have this one back, he feels the gameplan for the Sooners was “one of the best” he’s ever seen.

I wonder how many games Auburn would win over Oklahoma if they were to play the Sooners 9 more times?

Auburn won’t be seeing Oklahoma again this season, though. Instead, the Tigers face an absolutely brutal October schedule that includes matchups against Georgia, Mizzou and Kentucky – all on the road. After that, they finish the season against No. 25 Texas A&M and at No. 1 Alabama. The Tigers would have to beat a (currently) ranked team to reach a bowl game this season.

Next up for Hugh Freeze and Co? A very ticked off Georgia squad in Athens. Next Saturday’s matchup is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
