Florida players Caleb Brantley and Adam Lane have received second-degree misdemeanor charges after walking out of a bowling alley without paying, according to multiple reports.

Alachua County Sherriff’s Office warrant affidavits indicate that the two Gators were patrons of Splitz Bowling Alley on July 4, arriving at about 8:55 p.m. and leaving at about 9:45 p.m. without paying, SB Nation reported.

Neither player has been formally arrested.

According to reports, Brantley ($42.34) and Lane ($16.93) bought various food items celebrating Independence Day at the establishment and then left without settling their tabs.

If true, Brantley and Lane made a dumb decision. Florida fans who busied themselves creating memes and laughing at former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston for walking out of Publix without paying for crab legs no longer have much moral high ground here, as these Gators essentially are accused of the same thing.

Before the incident, Brantley projected as a starting defensive tackle, while Lane was expected to compete with true freshman Jordan Scarlett to back up Kelvin Taylor.

Although the charges aren’t nearly as serious as the four first-degree felonies levied against J.C. Jackson, if found guilty, both players could endure a small suspension and be required to participate in community service.

With the new cost of attendance measures set to start awarding stipends to players, there’s even less of an excuse for a college athlete on full scholarship to welch on paying for food.
